EMGIP (Émigré Memorial German Internship Program) offers internship opportunities for U.S. and Canadian students in the German parliament, the Bundestag. The internships are two months long in positions matching the student’s interest and experience. Interns will be placed within the administration (Verwaltung), preferably with an office (Sekretariat) working for their preferred commission (Ausschuss). In addition to contributing to the respective offices, interns have the opportunity to study legislative and administrative procedures in the German parliament. The program developed by the DAAD and the Freie Universität Berlin, provides outstanding young journalism and communications students with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the society, culture, values and political attitudes in Germany. Participants spend six weeks at the Freie Universität Berlin for a series of full-day seminars on German politics, culture and media. They subsequently embark on an intensive five-week internship with a German newspaper, magazine, radio station or PR agency. Since 2006, the Study and Internship Program (SIP) has enabled highly qualified undergraduates from U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities to experience the German approach to hands-on education at a member of UAS7, a consortium of Germany's top universities of applied sciences. SIP students spend a semester studying at a UAS7 member and a semester interning. They may intern on or off-campus. SIP is an option for students in a broad range of applied fields. In addition to the Study and Internship Program (SIP), in 2013-14 Seven German Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS7) will offer two new competitive programs that include scholarships for all successful applicants. The Study Program (SP) includes a study semester on the campus of one of Germany’s leading universities of applied sciences, which are known for small class sizes and excellent teaching by faculty with backgrounds in business, industry, government and the arts.
