BioEconomy Cluster

BioEconomy Cluster

The sustainable utilisation of biobased resources makes a vital contribution to securing the supply of raw materials and to dealing with climate change. Renewable raw materials are expected to become an alternative to oil in the future. BioEconomy focuses on the integrated material and energetic utilisation of non-food biomass to generate materials, chemicals, products made from new materials, and energy sources. The linking of different economic sectors in the cluster (e.g. timber and forestry, chemicals, plant engineering), the integrated management of cross-cluster material flows and the development, scaling and industrial realisation of production processes facilitate the optimised utilisation of biomass. The cluster combines the expertise of over 60 research and industry partners, covering the value added network of the bioeconomy and the entire innovation chain. The cluster strives for the globally exemplary realisation of the bioeconomy in the region. (Photo © Fraunhofer CBP)
