Awarded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the leading-edge cluster competition, the FOE currently consists of 28 partners, including DAX-listed companies, international corporations, mid-sized companies, research institutes and universities. Organized into the public-private partnership iL, all partners share the common goal of driving innovation faster into markets. A worldwide unique laboratory has been set up, in which academic scientists and industrial researchers from various disciplines work together on the major research focus Organic Electronics. The partners' activities are guided by the jointly defined goals and a joint strategy, starting with materials development, to the production of components and systems, all the way to the production and sale of new applications. Specially designed characterization tools, analytical instruments and printing machines are routinely used to answer the challenges of printed organic electronics.
