With its 260 life science companies and world-renowned public research institutions, the Greater Munich Area is among the most prominent biotech locations in Europe. What distinguishes Munich is its close networking of industry and academic research and the high number of innovative small and medium sized enterprises. In 2010, the region was awarded Leading-Edge Cluster status by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. This programme, called “m4 – Personalized Medicine and Targeted Therapies” joins forces of more than 100 partners from the midmarket biotech industry, large corporations, scientific institutions and clinics. Personalized medicine aims to develop more effective therapies by applying molecular diagnostics to define subgroups of patients which should be treated differentially.
BioM is the cluster management agency and offers a variety of services: start-up consulting and financing, databases of companies and technologies, partnering events and much more.
